Connecting to God: The Struggle and the Freedom

Life can feel overwhelming, right? Sometimes, the weight of everything—school, friendships, family, our personal struggles—makes it feel impossible to connect with God. We hear people talk about feeling God’s presence or trusting Him with their problems, but for us, it can feel distant or out of reach. And that’s okay to admit because you’re not alone in feeling that way.

I’ve had moments where I felt like I was trying so hard to connect with God, but it felt like my prayers were bouncing off the ceiling. It’s like, "Where are You, God?" In those times, we can easily get frustrated, and the harder we try, the further away God seems. I want you to know that those moments don’t mean you’re doing something wrong. In fact, it’s usually in those tough moments when God is trying to show us that He is the one reaching out to us. 👐

The Beauty of Surrender

Here’s the thing about connecting with God—it’s not supposed to be about striving or trying to be perfect. God doesn’t ask us to have all the answers or to come to Him with everything in order. He simply wants our hearts. And that can actually be a freeing thought. Instead of carrying our burdens on our own or pretending to be strong all the time, we can bring everything—our pain, doubts, and questions—to Him.

When we let go of the need to be in control, we open the door to deeper connection with God. We don’t have to fight so hard to be good enough because Jesus already made us enough. It’s about trusting Him with our lives, even in the messiest and hardest moments. That’s when the real connection happens—when we surrender, when we lean into His grace, and when we realize we can’t do it on our own.

It’s Hard, But It’s Also Freeing

Yes, it can be hard to connect with God. The world is noisy, and distractions pull us in every direction. But when we take even the smallest step toward God, He meets us right where we are. And the peace that follows—that’s the kind of freedom that no one can take away. It’s the freedom of knowing that we don’t have to walk through life alone.

We all have days where we feel distant from God, and that’s part of the journey. But on those days, remember His promise:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28
When you’re tired, when you’re struggling, when everything feels like too much—He is there, offering rest and renewal. 🙏

You’re Not Alone

One of the biggest lies we tell ourselves is that no one else is struggling like we are. But the truth is, so many of us are walking similar paths, learning to trust God a little more each day. So, don’t be afraid to open up. Whether it's in prayer, with a trusted friend, or in a small group, remember that we are all in this together. God never intended for us to walk through life on our own.

A Prayer for Connection:

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for always being close, even when we feel far away. Help us to trust You with our struggles and to surrender our worries into Your hands. Give us the strength to keep connecting with You, and remind us daily that we are never alone. Fill our hearts with peace and remind us that You are always there, loving us just as we are. Amen.

How to Connect with God Today:

  • Spend a few quiet moments in prayer. Even a couple of minutes can make a difference.
  • Read a Bible verse that speaks to your heart and meditate on it throughout your day.
  • Reach out to a friend or join a small group to talk about your faith journey.
  • Remember, God is always near—waiting to connect with you.

I hope this blog speaks to your heart and encourages you to keep reaching out to God, even when it feels hard. He’s never as far away as we think. 🌿

Stay blessed,
Shyanne 💖
